How to Type Korean on Your Computer or Phone (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android)

Learning Korean is exciting — but typing in Korean for the first time can feel confusing. This guide walks you through setting up a Korean keyboard on every major device, so you can start practicing right away.

Setting Up Korean Typing on Windows

  1. Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region
  2. Click Add a language and search for Korean (한국어)
  3. Install it, then press Windows key + Space to switch between languages
  4. You will see a language indicator in the taskbar — click it to switch to Korean (한)

Setting Up Korean Typing on Mac

  1. Go to System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources
  2. Click the + button and search for Korean
  3. Add Korean — 2-Set (the standard layout used in Korea)
  4. Use Control + Space or the input menu in the top menu bar to switch

Setting Up Korean on iPhone (iOS)

  1. Go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard
  2. Select Korean and choose 2-Set Korean
  3. When typing, tap the globe icon (🌐) on your keyboard to switch

Setting Up Korean on Android

  1. Go to Settings → General Management → Language and Input → On-Screen Keyboard
  2. Add Samsung Keyboard or Gboard and enable Korean
  3. Tap the language icon while typing to switch
